Sample #2
This is a letter shared by Planned Parenthood Shasta Diablo. The topic is not saving our programs, but demonstrates generally how to write a letter to the editor.

Link to YouTube Video
Thanks to Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and the young men from their MIP program. This is an example of a short, youth-created video that can be used to promote your programs and show their worth. You could also create a video that includes youth talking directly about the benefits they've gotten from MIP/TSO/I&E/AFLP programs, and how the cuts will hurt them.

Welcome

Cal-SAFE Cuts

With Cal-SAFE being placed in tier 3 of education funds, we are facing some very real danger to the program. We continue to encourage you to approach legislators on this issue, especially Republican legislators who are either from your district or serve on any education-related committees (for more information about the committees, see the legislative roster). In addition to state-level action, though, we believe that local action is desperately needed.

Now is the time to contact your school board, school district leadership, and local decision-makers to come up with a plan for keeping Cal-SAFE programs intact. Tier 3 funds can be shifted between any tier 3 program, so it's critical that educators and leaders understand what the Cal-SAFE program is, and why it's so important to the success of our schools and most importantly, our students. We have created template materials specifically designed for use with school boards, school district personnel, and community members. Please feel free to use the templates provided here and make changes as necessary to serve local purposes.

To find out who your state legislators are, visit the site below:

To contact your federal legislators, use the information provided here:

U.S. Senate
Dianne Feinstein   (202) 224-3841
Barbara Boxer       (202) 224-3553

U.S House of Representatives
To find your district representative, go to http://www.house.gov/ and enter your zip code into the search field.

Contact your legislators TODAY to inform them of the impacts that
these cuts will have on the youth of California!

Some tools to help you get youth involved are included on this page. You can also visit http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/youth/advocacy/yan/toolkit/index.htm  for more resources on youth advocacy.

REMEMBER: Educating legislators is NOT lobbying! Nonprofits have the right to educate lawmakers about their issues and their programs!

We strongly recommend that you use as a resource the No Time for Complacency  Report  to highlight taxpayer costs associated with teen births. We suggest that in addition to your state representatives, you also contact your federal legislators to alert them to the disastrous impact that these cuts will have on California's youth.
