Advocacy Update

URGENT Action Needed For Cal-SAFE!

The Cal-SAFE Program is threatened with elimination in the Governor's proposed budget! In response, we are supporting AB1152, which protects Cal-SAFE from flexibility. We Need Your Calls TODAY!
The bill to protect Cal-SAFE, AB1152, is up for vote in the education committee and we may not have enough votes to get out of committee. We NEED YOUR VOICE! If you live or work in the districts served by the people listed below, please call their Sacramento office ASAP to state your support for the bill. You can find district-specific data to help you on our web site.

Specifically, mention that there is no other funding source for pregnant and parenting teens, other than this source. You need to talk about the importance of the bill TODAY! The hearing is at 1:30pm.

Members who need to be called are:

Please call right now, and get other folks in your area to call. Once you have spoken to someone, please send an email to Nina Buthee at CCDAA, nina@ccdaa.org, ASAP.

Remember to stress that Cal-SAFE has had enormous success in increasing the graduation rates among teen parents, and that the Program serves two generations of children. The Escondido Cal-SAFE Program worked with KPBS in San Diego to create a beautiful video that can also be used to educate any stakeholder group about the importance and impact of the Program. You can access the clip here.
