not have enough votes to get out of committee. We NEED YOUR VOICE! If
you live or work in the districts served by the people listed below,
please call their Sacramento office ASAP to state your support for the

Remember to stress that Cal-SAFE has had enormous success in increasing the graduation rates among teen parents, and that the Program serves two generations of children. The Escondido Cal-SAFE Program worked with KPBS in San Diego to create a beautiful video that can also be used to educate any stakeholder group about the importance and impact of the Program. You can access the clip here.
Please use these resources as you talk with stakeholders about the Cal-SAFE Program. Remember, when using templates, it's best to insert some information that's specific to your legislative state districts and your agency. Anecdotes and success stories are especially powerful.

Two-page Summary of Twelve-Year Evaluation Report
This 2-page document can serve as an effective advocacy
tool in explaining what you and your colleagues do to
serve the needs of expectant and parenting students. It
gives key facts about the Cal-SAFE Program and
summarizes major positive outcomes accomplished over the
past 12 years of its existence.
This report summarizes the status of The Cal-SAFE
Program's progress in meeting its goals set by the
California State Legislature. It covers from the first
year of implementation (Aug 1999) to June 2012. It
includes graphs that show the number of students and
children served over the 12 years, along with the
Cal-SAFE Program outcomes such as graduation, repeat
birth, low birth weight, and childhood immunization
rates compared to state and national rates.
We have received the latest data on AFLP outcomes. This data
can be used to talk to decision-makers about AFLP, educating the community about the benefit of
supporting young parents, and proving the effectiveness of
your program. We urge you to download this data and make
good use of it!

We also need to continue to watch the Federal budget to protect the Teen Pregnancy Prevention funds, Title X Family Planning funds, MCAH funds, and funding for Planned Parenthood. See our past newsletters for information on those efforts.
